My First Flight

One night
I took my flight…
I was in the sky
And I saw a bird’s eye.
Then I looked at the earth
And I felt my heart beating.
It was great
And I wanted to celebrate.
So I flew and flew,
The way I knew.
I saw Italy
And then Germany.
I also saw a special line
And it was so fine.
Maybe it was made of snow,
But I don’t know.
I looked at my wing
And I began to sing.
A music about a letter,
Because with this I felt better.
Then I thought to myself
A very specially thing.
I’m going to seek
And then I saw the sea.
It was a different space,
But the most beautiful place
I had already seen
Or been to.
And together
We’ll never
Wake up… ever.

Hi Paddy!

I am on holiday in Turkey!
This is fantastic here. I’ve already been to Pammukkale, Éfeso and Izmir. I’ve already visited some beautiful places. In Pamukkale I swam in the natural swimming-pools, and in Éfeso I walked in the Greek remains.
Now, I’ve just been in Capadócia, but I haven’t gone to the Fairy Chimneys yet.
I haven’t seen the Salt Lake with its magic mirages, the Blue Mosque, the Sta Sofia Cathedral and the Big Bazaar yet. So in the next days I’m going to Ankara and Istambul.
Hope everything’s OK with you. Keep in touch.

Love,
Inês Lobo

P.S. – The city of Istambul is in two continents!

I live in a small town called Mangualde. I enjoy living there because it’s calm and it’s surrounded by beautiful forests and two rivers. It has the great scenery of Serra da Estrela, specially in winter time when it's full of snow. First of all, I think my city could have more cultural places like cinemas and theatres or even places where we could learn how to play instruments, dance, watch performances or see exhibitions. We have in our town a beautiful cinema which has been closed for years, it would be so great if the town hall people recovered it and opened it for the citizens. Also, I believe it would be better if there were places to practise different kinds of sports. In addition, I guess people would be very happy if the beautiful gardens of the Condes de Anadia Palace were open to the public. There people could spend sunny afternoons reading, playing and meeting friends. Finally, I’m sure my city needs to have a shopping centre, not one of those horrible ones, but a cosy one with interesting shops and good book shops.

One of the best journey I did...

We arrived at Oporto airport early in the morning. When we were waiting to get in the plane we saw a lost bag … the police came and told everyone: "Go to the other side of the room, please". We went and we understood that they were thinking it was a bomb! Everyone was a little bit anxious... But after some time the bag's owner appeared.
The next day we arrived at Lima, capital of Peru. It was the national day, people were celebrating in the streets and we saw firework.
After two days we left Lima at 4 a.m. and we went on a small bus to Balestas islands. There we saw some marine animal species, like dolphins, penguins and seals. I have to confess I got a little bit sick in the boat!
Then we had lunch in a small oasis and we took the road to Nazca where we spent the night.
In the morning we got up early to be the first in the queue to catch a small plane to fly over the “ Pampas” and see the outstanding drawings in the earth known as the Nazca Lines. We saw the colibri, the condor, the fish, the monkey,...
We took the road again and arrived at Arequipa where we had a great “Cuy” for dinner!
The day after we went to see the vulcanes – Chachany, Misty and Pichu Pichu. We also went to visit a beautiful monastery with nice courtyards painted in red, blue and yellow.
After some days we finally went to the big mountains, we took a long ride passing the 4900 meters of altitude and arrived at the end of the day in Chivay. Guess how I survived the altitude? I took some " hoja de coca" tea! Before dinner we had the great chance to take a bath in an outside poll with the water at 40ºC surrounded by beautiful mountains. It was -8ºC outside the water!!
In the morning we took a jeep to the canyon of Colca to see “el Condor”. It was big! 3 meters wing to wing!
Then we went back to Arequipa...
The next day we took the plane to Cusco. We went for a walk in the city and had a traditional dinner and saw some performances in the end. I have to say that the guide that met us at the airport, and drove us to the hotel and to the dinner was quite a comedian!
While we were in Cusco we visited the sacred valley of the Incas. We also took a day visit to the fabulous Machu Picchu, we travelled by train through the fabulous peruan jungle. I loved Machu Picchu! As it was cloudy on the top it seemed like we were close to the sky, it was a magic landscape!
After Cusco we went to Puno. There we visited the lake Titicaca and it’s islands. One was built with rushes, it was a floating island! The other was Taquilli, there we saw typical dances. In the top of this island we had a great view over the lake. We even saw Bolivia from up there!
The journey was getting to the end, the day after we went back to Lima. And after a night of resting we took the plane to Oporto.
